Frank Marotte’s optimism during his last appearance on BFM Business at the end of August was not only due to the manufacturer’s good prospects for its parts supply. The CEO of Toyota in France probably also had in mind the announcement that his group would make three weeks later. Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) has just presented an extensive hiring plan of 500 permanent employees by the end of 2024.
The operation will increase the number of employees on permanent contracts at the only production site in Onnaing, near Valenciennes, to more than 4,000 out of a total workforce of almost 5,000 employees.
The Yaris and Yaris Cross triumph in Europe
Since the beginning of its activity on January 31, 2001, the Onnaing plant has produced the Yaris model in which it has recently specialized, together with its hybrid version of gasoline and electricity. These two models are having great commercial success in the European market where they are sold, which explains this contracting plan beyond the post-2024 perspective.
A fluid process in the next two years
In the document, Toyota also insists on its inclusive hiring criteria: “TMMF continues to hire men and women without qualifications or experience in the automotive sector. The fundamental skills and knowledge are acquired in Toyota Center training courses and then during online learning.”
The group also specifies that employees who currently have fixed-term or temporary contracts will have a preferential position in the selection process. Future hires with fixed-term or temporary contracts in 2022 will also be able to opt for one of the indefinite contracts during the following two years.
