Air India signs letter of intent for 250 aircraft with Airbus

The Indian conglomerate will order 210 single-aisle A320neo and 40 twin-aisle A350s from Airbus, as well as 220 aircraft from Boeing.

The president of the Indian conglomerate Tata Group, owner of the Air India company, announced Tuesday that he had signed a letter of intent relating to an order for 250 Airbus aircraft.

This letter refers to 210 single-aisle and 40 double-aisle aircraft, he said during a video conference ceremony in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

220 aircraft ordered from Boeing

Sources told Reuters last week that Air India would procure 210 single-aisle A320neo and 40 twin-aisle A350s from the European planemaker.

The Indian company will also buy 220 aircraft from Boeing and the total amount of this double order represents more than 100,000 million dollars (93,500 million euros) at list price, according to these sources.
