This is a recruitment campaign described as “unpublished” launched by the RATP. It includes the hiring of 2,700 bus drivers, almost double last year, 400 metro drivers and 700 stations and station agents.
Other sectors under pressure are especially affected, such as maintenance, with 400 vacant positions.
Last year, the problems of lack of personnel in certain workshops caused the deterioration of the service on several metro lines, in particular line 12, where the rate of maintenance of rolling stock had to be slowed down.
The RATP is also seeking to fill 120 security officer positions, another profession where candidates are scarce.
In addition to the 4,900 contracts with permanent contracts, the RATP has announced that it offers 1,000 work-study contracts and 700 integration contracts.
By comparison, the group had set a goal of adding 1,700 permanent employees by 2022. It ultimately hired 2,753 due to operational problems encountered on the bus and metro networks.
recruitment difficulties
At the beginning of January, the CEO of the Jean Castex group announced his intention to hire “4,500 people” to return to a normal level of service in 2023 after the fiasco at the end of last year in Parisian transport.
Therefore, ambitions have been revised upwards. As a reminder, the RATP network was in great pain during the last four months of 2022 with one bus out of four not running and 10-20% of the metro offering unrealized.
Goal Olympic Games Paris 2024
Recruitment difficulties, increased absenteeism and resignations, latent social conflict between bus or maintenance drivers… The causes of service degradation are already known.
A year and a half after the opening of the Olympic Games and although transport will be a crucial issue for the proper development of the competition, the RATP wants to “ensure the expected offer on the networks and prepare the big events to come”.
Sometimes questioned about its lack of attractiveness, the company defended itself by claiming to have received “almost 91,500 CV” in 2022. It has also set itself the goal of feminizing its workforce during this recruitment campaign.
