What are we talking about when we talk about bioeconomy in the fashion industry? A beautiful concept or something very real and tangible in our lives? According to Muchaneta van Napel, director of Shape Innovate and visiting professor at the University of Arts in London, who was at Exponor this week as part of Modtíssimo, a trade show for the Portuguese textile and fashion industry, we are talking about a reality that Urgent care is required, because despite all the warnings, the fashion industry remains one of the most polluting sectors of the global economy.
Van Napel spoke at the launch of the beat by be@t programme, led by the Technological Center for Textile and Clothing Industries of Portugal (Citeve), involving 54 entities committed to developing the sustainability of the fashion industry industry from production to consumption. Supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the textile industry will invest €138 million in the bio-economy, seeking a paradigm shift for the sector and creating high added value products from biological resources, as an alternative to fossil materials.
