The shared value bonus, known as the “Macron bonus”, benefited 5.5 million employees in 2022, the delegate minister in charge of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, announced Monday, according to La Tribune. This bonus was paid for a total amount of almost 4.4 billion euros last year, reports the economic daily.
“It is an increase of 50% compared to 2021,” said the minister, traveling in the Gers. The shared value bonus replaces the exceptional purchasing power bonus (Pepa) from July 2022. Returning to the Pepa principle, it encourages employers to pay a bonus to their employees.
The 5.5 million employees who benefited from it in 2022 received an average of 789 euros. “The profits must also be for the employees,” said Gabriel Attal, head of the Gers Parera company, according to statements by La Tribune.
Small companies paid most of the shared value bonus in 2022. Companies with nine or fewer employees paid a total of €1.04 billion to 989,000 employees. Those with 10 to 19 employees paid 379 million euros to 429,000 employees.
“58% of share value bonuses were paid to VSEs and SMEs,” La Tribune reports, citing a member of Gabriel Attal’s entourage.
Agreement between unions and employers on “shared value”
The announcement comes as Elisabeth Borne vowed on Monday to sign into law a recently concluded agreement between unions and employers on “shared value”.
“I commit myself on behalf of the Government, we will respect the compromise reached between the social partners and we will propose the faithful and complete transcription of this agreement into law”, declared the Prime Minister before various ministers and the presidential party.
