Stellantis agrees with the unions 2000 voluntary departures in Italy

After presenting a voluntary departure plan in France in mid-February, Stellantis will do the same in Italy.

The car manufacturer Stellantis has signed a framework agreement with the unions of the automobile sector in Italy that foresees up to 2,000 voluntary redundancies by the end of the year, according to what the unions and management have learned.

The deal affects about 4.4% of the auto giant’s total of some 47,000 employees in Italy.

The Fiom CGIL union refused to sign the agreement, reiterating “its opposition to continue on this path” of voluntary departures, in the absence of a job creation plan. “Almost 7,000 jobs have been lost since 2021,” laments the union.

In France, Stellantis presented a plan last February that provides for 1,300 voluntary departures a year in 2022 and 2023, or 2,600 in total.

This voluntary departure plan is part of the desire to convert some of the employees from thermal to electric, a spokesperson for the group explained at the time.

Record profit in 2022

The Stellantis group recorded a second year of record profits in 2022, with a net profit of 16.8 billion euros, offsetting the instabilities in the automotive market with price increases.

Based on its results, Stellantis will distribute 4.2 billion euros in dividends to its shareholders, or 1.34 euros per share.

€2 billion will also be donated to its 264,000 employees worldwide.
