Household consumption rebounded by 1.5% in January

This rebound is mainly explained by the increase in energy consumption linked to the reduction in the part of energy expenditure supported by public administrations through the energy bonus.

Household consumption in France “increased notably” in January with an increase of 1.5% in one month and recovered after the fall in December 2022 (-1.6%), INSEE announced on Tuesday.

This rebound “is mainly explained by the sharp increase in energy consumption”, an increase of 4%, “in reaction to the energy check”, details the National Institute of Statistics (Insee). Energy consumption fell slightly (-0.8%) at the end of the year.
