The 4-day week is the dream of many employees… at least on paper. In Picardy, this new organizational model proposed as a test to Urssaf agents as part of an experiment on well-being at work has aroused little enthusiasm.
In the end, only 3 Urssaf employees out of the 200 eligible decided to take part in the experiment, which should last for a year. However, a few months ago almost half of them were in favor of the 4 day week and a quarantine said they were considering applying.
9 hours a day
But they seem to have been overcome by reality. Because the device proposed by Urssaf de Picardie does not foresee a reduction in working time, but simply a different distribution. Specifically, candidates for the 4-day week must work 9 hours a day, instead of 7:20 a.m. for 5 days. Which discourages those with young children from dropping them off or picking them up at school.
Others simply felt that their 9-hour workload would have been unsustainable. If management saw in this device a way to attract candidates when recruiting is difficult, it is clear that this formula is not suitable for everyone. In spite of everything, a year is given to take stock of this experiment.
