Trade negotiations: Christiane Lambert criticizes distributors for not trying hard enough

A guest of BFM Business, the president of the FNSEA deplored the price war that distributors continue to wage despite rising costs for manufacturers and producers.

“I followed this battle very closely.” Invited to BFM Business this Friday, Christiane Lambert returned to the results of the trade negotiations between distributors and manufacturers that ended on Wednesday.

“The industrialists asked for an average increase of 15% (in the price). They only got 10%, which means that, again this year, they will not cover all their expenses that have increased in terms of salaries, transportation, logistics, energy…”, indicated the president of the FNSEA.

With inflation, “everyone must make an effort,” he claimed, assuring that farmers and industrialists have carried their “share of the effort,” unlike distributors. “It’s true that distributors who were used to making high margins found it hard to make the effort,” she laments.

“A French Specificity”

“We have a large distribution that puts us to the test with distributors who wage war for market share just because of price”, adds Christiane Lambert, assuring that “it is a French specificity”.

In fact, “when manufacturers ask for price increases in Germany, they get them while inflation (food) in Germany is 21%, compared to 14% in France,” he concluded.
