But, once it is not customary, a French actor also benefits a little from this windfall. This is the Payote house, a Perpignan specialist in Made in France espadrilles. In fact, this company has imagined a model with the effigy of the deceased sovereign that is selling like hot cakes.
According to France Bleu, a series of 500 copies of these espadrilles were sold in almost a week, in France, but also in Belgium, Hungary and even across the Atlantic, in Canada.
The company did not expect such success, simply betting initially on a tribute to the sovereign.
No additional production
“We were in the workshop and we thought it would be cool to make an espadrille with the face of the queen,” he says. We did it, we uploaded a photo to social networks around 8 pm, and by 10 pm he had received more than 1,000 messages asking us if we were going to sell it”, Olivier Gely, his boss, tells our colleagues.
Therefore, the decision was made to manufacture 500 copies of this pair of royal espadrilles, which found a buyer as soon as they went on sale. The company specifies that profits from sales are donated to the Apprentis d’Auteuil foundation.
Now it remains to be seen whether the company intends to produce this model again or even navigate a demand that is unlikely to wane. Questioned by us, the company explains that it was above all a “tribute” and that there will be no additional production. The happy buyers are therefore in the possession of a collector…
