Teachers’ salary: unions slam the “pact” negotiations

The teachers’ unions leave the negotiating table on the part of the “pact” of the increase in teachers’ salaries. They denounce “an increase in the workload of the staff.”

Teachers’ unions announced on Monday that they had left the negotiating table on the part of the “pact” for the increase in teachers’ salaries, denouncing “an increase in the workload of staff.”

This was the second meeting in the part of the “pact”, which foresees, in particular, new missions for teachers. The FO and CGT unions had already abandoned negotiations in January. Among the additional tasks planned are missions “related to short-term replacements”, or others “orientation and support to students”.

An instrument that does not meet expectations

According to the proposals presented at the first meeting on the “pact”, in the second grade (university and high school), “a teacher who commits to the pact will necessarily have a part of his working day dedicated to short-term replacements.” , we had told the ministry.

Consultations on teacher salary increases promised by President Emmanuel Macron resumed in January, after a first phase in the autumn. In January and February, two meetings were held on the “base” part (unconditional) of the increases, in parallel to the meetings on the “pact” part (linked to new missions), the most contested by the unions.

According to the press release published this Monday, the unions say they have “confirmation that the pact is an instrument that in no way meets the expectations of the classmates and the needs of the school.” “Far from contributing to the revaluation expected by all, the pact will mean an increase in the workload of the workforce. No response has been given to the issue of gender wage inequalities: the pact will even aggravate these inequalities is unacceptable!”, they point out. lament.

Finally, according to the unions, “the pact will considerably degrade the functioning of schools and educational establishments.” They say that they demand “an ambitious revaluation and without compensation for the entire workforce.”
