The CGT of the TotalEnergies group denounced on Monday a “blackmail” on employment and investment exercised by the management of two refineries against the employees who intended to strike on Tuesday against the pension reform project.
The managers of the Normandy and Feyzin (Rhône) refineries released videos internally “to say that basically we were already coming out of a difficult period, that to cover up again in terms of the strike would be to jeopardize the sites”, Eric Sellini, coordinator of the CGT. for the group, he told AFP, denouncing “labour blackmail.”
On the Normandy platform, Eric Sellini denounces “blackmail of investments on the environment”, confirming information from BFM Business. The Normandy refinery, at the forefront of a wage strike last fall, had suffered a production stoppage for several weeks.
“I call on your responsibility to preserve our industrial tool that generates a lot of employment and pride. The good availability of our facilities is necessary to justify the future investments that the platform needs as our energy transition”, writes in an internal message, transmitted to AFP and authenticated by the site management, the director of the Normandy site, David Marion.

Contacted by AFP, the group’s management indicated that it was “aware of the messages sent by the refinery directors to the employees at the site” and assured that “it was by no means investment blackmail since investments in efficiency energy to limit [les] CO2 emissions were a commitment from the general management and would be maintained”.
“We have never had a system of management rounds with employees, we have never known that before a strike,” Alexis Antonioli, the general secretary of the CGT of the Normandy platform, told AFP, who sees it as “feverishness.” In the event of requisitions at the refineries to put an end to the stoppages, “this time we will prevent them, by means of a massive convergence in front of the requisitioned sites,” he warned.
