The garbage collectors of the Paris City Council began a strike action on Monday against the pension reform that will continue on Tuesday, a day of great mobilization, indicated the Paris City Council and the CGT.
The movement “will continue tomorrow and should [affecter] picked up again”, anticipates the city council, which says it does not yet have data on its scope.
“In at least four districts the bins have not been collected: days 6, 14, 17 and 20 for the moment,” said Natacha Pommet, general secretary of Public Services of the CGT, in the afternoon.

Public service garbage cans collect waste in half of the Parisian arrondissements (2nd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 20th centuries). In the rest of the municipalities, the collection is carried out by private companies, such as Suez or Veolia, whose employees are called on strike starting Tuesday.
A few dozen garbage collectors have begun to occupy the waste incineration plant in Porte d’Ivry, said Régis Vieceli, general secretary of the CGT (FTDNEEA) cleaning union.
The trucks are diverted to transfer centers to be diverted, according to the garbage treatment union (Syctom) in charge of this incinerator, which processes around 2,000 tons of waste per day.
The situation is particular for the Paris City Hall, which has been saying since January “solidarity with the social movement” and shows it on two banners displayed on the facade of the Hôtel de Ville, however “inciting the agents to strike”, according to the entourage of the mayoress of PS Anne Hidalgo, nor close its reception services to the public as the civil status.
To paralyze “France” on Tuesday, the inter-union is counting on a gradual start of strikes on Monday night for a mass movement on Tuesday at dawn, hoping it will last.
