The German union Verdi launched on Saturday a strike by security personnel at several airports, including Berlin, which according to it should lead to flight cancellations and the formation of long queues.
In addition to the international airport in the German capital, the airports of Hamburg, Hannover and Bremen are also affected. The union has been in conflict with management for years over the issue of pay for working hours at night, on weekends and on public holidays.
wage demands
As of mid-February, eight German airports, including the busy hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, had already been grounded due to a staff strike amid tense wage negotiations.
The Verdi union is holding sectoral negotiations for public sector workers, airport ground staff and aviation security personnel, to demand better wages to compensate for the loss of purchasing power linked to high inflation.
