More than 5,600 tons of waste have accumulated since the beginning of March on the streets of Paris due to the strike of the garbage collectors. The latter are strongly opposed to the pension reform, which will make them work two more years.
Already last week, this TikTok star garbage collector explained on our set that he could not go on strike every day, saying that he mobilized “in saw teeth”.
Since the beginning of the social movement against the pension reform, he says he went on strike for three days. Result: “225 euros” will be missing at the end of March. “It’s certainly going to hurt at the end of the month, but I’ll find a way to pay my bills. Because we mustn’t let go,” he said into a BFMTV microphone.
terrible working conditions
“The situation is unsustainable at the moment, it is true. But it will be unsustainable in the future,” if the reform is approved, explains Ludovic Franceschet. “I am 47 years old, my fingers are numb, I have ants on my ankles, we breathe toxic products. We have 600-litre containers to throw away…it’s huge!” he said. “Two more years, can you imagine? (…) it is not possible.”
Today, he and his teammates, if they have contributed enough, can leave at the age of 57. If the reform is approved and then applied, it will be necessary to work two more years: the minimum starting age will be delayed to 59 years. “It’s not possible,” insists Ludovic Franceschet.
