The environmental and social challenges we face today require companies to engage in a transition process and contribute to the sustainable development goals. “The subject is topical but at the same time it is not always dominated by what pedagogy requires” abounds Benoît Comfaits, founder of BCO Conseil, an independent consultant on energy transition. His mission is precisely to support companies and institutions in all areas of the energy transition and industry. Through a multidisciplinary approach, BCO Conseil aims to offer its customers the right energy mix based on hydrogen, but also on biofuels or electricity. Thus, the firm has powers in industrial and energy strategy, in energy and environmental law, but also in marketing and communication.
One of BCO Conseil’s high added value missions is the creation of energy transition roadmaps and decarbonisation strategies. Like its mission with Exxact Robotics, which makes robots for viticulture whose aim is to limit phytosanitary risks, reduce the hard work and decarbonize the vine thanks to hydrogen, BCO Conseil supports virtuous projects, from research to processing. “In this case, the question was how we were going to be able to use biofuels to decarbonize old equipment” exposes Benoît Comfaits. Once again, the goal is to get the transition strategy right with an energy mix solution. “Because the unique solution does not exist”.
In the same way, some cities and departments ask the BCO Conseil to study the energy potential of the territory: who are the actors who want to decarbonise, consume hydrogen, switch their fleet to electricity, etc.? These are in-depth field studies that allow public decision-makers to make their decisions regarding territorial policy in the medium and long term.
A decision support tool for public and private decision makers.
“The main characteristic that our clients need is to anticipate and decide. This allows us to reach investment and risk taking well in advance to be able to work on the context with a systemic approach” explains Benoît Comfaits for whom the most important thing is to integrate all the parameters of an ecosystem, with the aim of projecting into the future through a prospective aspect. The interest of this approach is to allow companies to visualize their development in the coming years.
Although BCO Conseil has seen a gradual growth in its activity since its creation in 2018, its founder wishes to continue supporting local authorities and industrialists, focusing in particular on transport-related activities, for which the challenges of decarbonisation are important.
