Strikes: in the refineries, the movement hardens

The use of 49.3 by the government seems to have prompted the mobilization of refinery employees, who in some places voted to renew the strike.

The situation remains tense a little more in the oil refineries. The government’s use of 49.3 appears to have prompted the mobilization of employees, all rallying against what is perceived as a coup.

At the Donges refinery (Loire-Atlantique), Fabien Privé Saint-Lanne, CGT union representative, asked President Macron to withdraw “this rogue law after the denial of democracy that constituted the use of 49.3″, assuring that ” The employees of this country as a whole have no choice but to fight and fight, otherwise tomorrow it will be working time, paid holidays and the right to strike that will undoubtedly be postponed in question.”

“I think that 49.3 has revitalized the troops a bit. Unfortunately, this use also crystallizes anger, tensions,” said Adrien Vaugrenard, CFDT union representative, after the general assembly.

Consequently, the resumption of the strike is voted in several places, refineries but also warehouses.

On BFMTV this Friday, Fabien Privé Saint-Lanne, secretary of the CGT of the Totalenergies refinery in Donges, confirms “the renewal of the strike movement until March 24 at 9:00 p.m.”. This strike began on March 7.

Refineries but also deposits

“It is about expanding the mobilization and continuing the strike movement so that next Thursday in the streets and in the companies there is an expansion of this social movement,” he adds.

“The SFDM, the oil deposit next to the refinery, has also been on renewable strike since yesterday (…) so clearly, the mobilization increases and the movement hardens,” he continued.

On the side of the TotalEnergies refinery in NormandyWhere employees are on strike but where shipments continue, activity “will stop” starting this weekend, Eric Sellini, the CGT coordinator within the oil group, told AFP on Friday.

“The employees raised their voices” and “the main units will begin to stop starting tomorrow” so “normally the refinery will stop this weekend or Monday at the latest,” he explained.

In addition, the refineries of La Mède (Bouches-du-Rhone) and that of Esso in Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhone) are still on strike, “it does not change”, explained Eric Sellini. In Fos, “deliveries are made sporadically,” he adds.

Finally, the Esso refinery in Gravenchon-Port-Jérôme (Seine-Maritime) had to stop production due to lack of crude sent by the Le Havre import depot, where employees are also on strike.
