The CGT ensures that the rejection of the motion of censure does not affect the “determination of the workers”

For the union organization, the rejection of the motion “does not change anything.” It calls to “amplify the mobilization” and “participate massively in renewable strikes and demonstrations.”

“Nothing undermines the determination of the workers”, writes the CGT in a press release on Monday night, after the rejection of the motion of censure presented by the parliamentarians, after the shot of Elisabeth Borne’s 49.3 to approve the reform of pensions. The rejection of this motion, “with a few votes, changes nothing!”, writes the Confederation.

“Nothing undermines the determination of workers, unemployed, young people and retirees to reject (…) the pension reform that everyone, without exception, considers unjustified, unfair and brutal,” continues the second French union. The CGT calls to “amplify the mobilization” and “participate massively in strikes and renewable demonstrations” on Thursday March 23 “and after, if necessary.” The inter-union called last week for a new day of strikes and demonstrations, the ninth, on Thursday, March 23.

“Nothing is played”

Interviewed at LCI on Monday evening, the CFDT general secretary, Laurent Berger, called on employees to “mobilise on Thursday, within the framework of the inter-union, with the same sense of responsibility” as since January to request the withdrawal of the reform. He said he was concerned about the “anger” and “violence” that could be expressed as a result of the approval of a law that “does not have a majority in the National Assembly”, while affirming that the unions would not be “responsible for what happens if would not be under the trade union slogan”.

“We are in the process of creating for ten billion euros (…) the biggest social crisis of the last ten years and the biggest political crisis of the last twenty or thirty years, it is not worth it,” he warned. He recalled that the Constitutional Council would be held and a shared initiative referendum would be called, with the support of the unions.

In another press release, the FSU for its part considered that “nothing is certain” and called on the President of the Republic not to promulgate the law. He wished “a powerful day of strikes and demonstrations on Thursday.” “The social movement has more legitimacy than ever to challenge a law enacted in force, without a majority in the National Assembly and despite the very strong opposition it finds in the population,” he said.
