The police intervened on the night of Monday to Tuesday to unblock the Donges oil terminal (Loire-Atlantique) which had been occupied by strikers for a week.
A source close to the strikers contacted by AFP before the end of the intervention reported “clashes” during the night. According to this source, the security forces would have “began to charge” against the protesters “as soon as they arrived” at around 02:05 hours.
The mobile gendarmes began their intervention around 2 am, we learned from the same source. They secured the area at dawn, in particular by putting out fires lit by protesters, an AFP photographer saw. At around 4:30 a.m., no other protesters were present at the site, according to the photographer.

Contacted by AFP, the prefectural guard could not confirm whether there had been a police intervention or the presence of injuries. The prefecture has scheduled a press conference on the situation in the morning.
Among the protesters who occupied the place of the Donges refinery: refinery agents, stevedores or even employees of the Cordemais thermal power plant.
