Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) increased its share capital by more than 680 million euros by issuing more than 136 million shares, the market announced on Tuesday.
“Caixa Geral de Depósitos, SA (Caixa) informs that it was today, March 20, 2023 [segunda-feira]the capital increase of 681,570,760 euros was registered with the commercial register and the issuance of 136,314,152 new shares, with a nominal unit value of five euros each,” the state-owned bank said in a statement sent today to the Commission of the Securities Market ( CMVM) and dated Monday.
According to CGD, this action took place “through the incorporation of reserves arising from an equal number of conversion rights issued in favor of the shareholder after Caixa joined the Special regime applicable to deferred tax assets, which was decided in 2014”.
With this operation, CGD’s share capital increased from EUR 3,844,143,735 to EUR 4,525,714,495, entirely owned by the State, the sole shareholder of the financial institution.
CGD’s profit in 2022 was 843 million euros, 44.5% more than in 2021, after the sole shareholder, the state, paid the bank’s “biggest dividend in history”, amounting to 352 million euros.
