Bricolex stores will be transformed into Gifi

The Competition Authority has given the green light to Gifi’s takeover bid for the Bricolex brand. However, five stores located in Paris will have to be sold to comply with competition rules.

Present only in Ile-de-France, the Bricolex brand will soon disappear. The Competition Authority authorized this Tuesday “under conditions” the takeover of the company Le Chamois, owner of the 21 stores of the DIY chain, by Gifi.

“The operation will result in particular in the transformation of the Bricolex points of sale into points of sale under the Gifi brand in which bazaar and decoration products will be sold,” specifies the administrative authority.

It will be necessary to sell 5 stores located in Paris intramural

Saying that it was “able to rule out any competition concerns resulting from the operation” for stores located in the inner suburbs, the Autorité “considered that the operation could harm competition in five Parisian areas centered around Bricolex stores: Paris 11, Paris 12, Paris 14, Paris 18 and Paris 19, given the very high market shares of the new entity and the absence of a sufficient alternative offer at the end of the operation”.

Under these conditions, Gifi has undertaken to sell these five Bricolex stores.
