Thanks to France, its first market, the discount store Action sees its sales increase by 30% in Europe

The Dutch discount store posted record growth in 2022 in Europe. Arriving in France in 2012, the brand surpassed €3 billion in sales there last year.

Sales of the Dutch discount store Action, specializing in non-food products, shot up 30% in 2022 to reach 8.9 billion euros in the 10 countries where it had 2,263 stores at the end of last year, according to a press release released this Thursday.

Action, which opened 280 stores, a “record number”, in 2022, also announced in its press release that its “Operating EBITDA”, an indicator of the profitability of its activity, stood at 1,200 million euros, also above.

Since then, it has established itself in an eleventh country since it opened its first store in Slovakia in March 2023. Its other countries of establishment are the Netherlands, Belgium, France which is its first market, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic. and Italy.

More than 3,000 million euros in France

In France, the discount store, which was consolidated in 2012, has become one of the brands preferred by consumers in just a few years. After having taken five years to reach a billion euros in turnover in France (in 2017), the Dutch brand surpassed 2 billion three years later in 2020 and only took two years to exceed 3 billion, the bar crossed in 2022. Sales in France now represent more than a third of the group’s total activity.

This bazaar specialist sells 6,000 references in 14 categories such as decoration, DIY, multimedia or sports, at the lowest possible prices. A positioning that benefits you especially in a period of high inflation, when consumers are looking for bargains.

Action says it employs “more than 80,000 employees of more than 136 different nationalities” and claims 730 stores in France.

The store chain, based in Zwaagdijk in the north of the Netherlands, has been run since January 2022 by Hajir Hajji, who joined the company at age 17 as a store worker before rising through the ranks.
