Unemployment benefits increased by 1.9% on April 1

This exceptional boost is aimed at limiting the impact of inflation, several unions said. The CGT, which abstained, however, demanded a more substantial increase.

Unemployment insurance benefits will increase by 1.9% on April 1, an exceptional boost due to inflation, several unions announced on Friday. The decision was made during a meeting of the Unédic board of directors.

“This follows a collective initiative by the unions which, faced with galloping inflation and the declining purchasing power of job seekers, requested and obtained this reassessment,” Force Ouvrière greeted in a press release.

The CGT deplores an increase “in total disconnection”

The union hailed “a first” because until then, only one reassessment per year took place on July 1. The CGT, however, regretted that the employers “had not granted more than a revaluation of 1.9% in total disconnection with the precariousness of the unemployed but, also, with the increases in the social minimums and the Smic”.

The union abstained, without thereby preventing the adoption of this revaluation.
