It is always difficult to know what to do with certain used everyday objects: saucepan, toothbrush, pen… Green bin, yellow bin? Some are recyclable, some are not. But while many of them end up in conventional containers, Carrefour offers to collect them for recycling in exchange for vouchers.
In fact, the distributor is testing from this Friday “recycling kiosks” installed in the parking lots of six of its stores (Athis-Mons, Angoulins, Évreux, Laval, Nice-Lingostière and Vaulx-en-Velin), reveals the parisian.
They can store six families of objects: toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, razors and manual blades, writing instruments, socks and stockings, games and toys, pots and pans.
Carrefour has partnered with five brands to carry out this project (BIC, DIM, Hasbro, Philips and Tefal), but obviously all brands of objects are accepted. The collected products will then be recycled by TerraCycle.
Up to 15 euros of vouchers
To encourage the consumer to this ecogesto, the distributor will offer vouchers in exchange for the items deposited: 50 cents for 5 pens, 1.50 euros for 5 socks, 5 euros for a frying pan and up to 15 euros for 7 toothbrushes.
“In the current context, it was important for us to be in a win/win approach, both for the planet and for the portfolio of our clients”, comments Carine Kraus, executive director of the commitment of the Carrefour group, to our colleagues.
Be careful though, these coupons can only be used at Carrefour and partner brand products. And to take advantage of it, sometimes a minimum purchase will be necessary. A €5 discount voucher for a deposited toy can be used to buy a Hasbro toy with a minimum value of €20, for example.
Now it remains to evaluate this initiative with customers. If the results are good, Carrefour promises to generalize these kiosks in its stores.
