The CGT congressmen meeting on Thursday approved by a large majority the orientation document proposed by the management, after lively debates, in particular on the question of the union’s affiliation to the “Nunca más” collective. The orientation document, which defines the line of the CGT for the next three years, was approved with 72.79% of the votes.
The management had taken care to take into account a certain number of amendments, in order to soften the edges of the less agreed provisions. Thus, a paragraph on the “unification of trade unionism” is modified so that the names of the FSU and Solidaires unions, with which the CGT has undertaken a work of rapprochement, no longer appear explicitly.
“A bad sign” for candidate Marie Buisson
Another paragraph has been rewritten, relating to the groups to which the CGT belongs, to eliminate the mention of “Never again”. This collective born in March 2020 brings together unions, NGOs and associations (including Greenpeace or Oxfam), and aims to address environmental and social problems head on. This rewriting did not prevent the delegates from repeatedly denouncing the participation of the CGT in this group. In question, the positions of “Never again”, especially on nuclear energy, and the lack of consultation, according to some, within the CGT on this participation.
He asked for a vote on an amendment that eliminates the initial paragraph, which received the approval of a small majority of congressmen (50.37%). This vote had no impact on the text of the guidance document, as the paragraph had been superseded by another one anyway. But it was perceived as a bad sign for Marie Buisson, candidate to take the head of the CGT, who represented the CGT within the collective.
