Although food prices still soared 15.8% year-on-year in March, household consumption fell 0.8% in February compared to the previous month, affected by lower spending on food and manufactured goods, INSEE reported on Friday. In one year, the fall reached 4%.
After an upwardly revised rebound of 1.7% in January, household consumption spending suffered a sharp fall of 1.2% on food purchases (more than 8% in a year) and 0.9% in those of manufactured goods.
Energy consumption remained almost stable (+0.1%), said the National Institute of Statistics.
