Pension reform: Elisabeth Borne exchanged with the local inter-union in Nevers

According to information from BFM TV, the Prime Minister took advantage of her trip to Nièvre to meet with the local inter-union union made up of six organizations: the CFDT, the CGT, the CFTC, FO, the UNSA and the FSU.

The Prime Minister is five days ahead of the meeting with the inter-union union in Matignon. Traveling to Nevers in the Nièvre, Elisabeth Borne responded favorably to the request of local trade union organizations who wished to be received by her office by going to meet her herself. According to information from BFM TV, the exchange was relatively short as it only lasted about ten minutes. In total, six unions were represented: CFDT, CGT, CFTC, FO, UNSA and FSU.

Some union representatives say they were pleasantly surprised by this exchange on the part of the Nevers prefecture. “We were pleasantly surprised that he came to receive us with a positive and respectful attitude compared to what we experienced just before on the street with the very authoritarian security service,” underlines Béatrice Lamouroux, UNSA department secretary. Despite the polite exchanges, they took the opportunity to reaffirm their hostility towards the government’s pension reform bill.

“We didn’t really get an answer”

However, in terms of substance, the union representatives had the impression that they were not really being listened to. “We remember that the unions made proposals and we didn’t really get an answer, regrets Béatrice Garcher. She quickly reminded us that there was a meeting in Matignon on Wednesday with the inter-union”. The departmental head of the CGT also indicates that the thorny issue of turning 64 was discussed more directly with the social adviser to the head of government from then on.

The same disappointment on the part of Pascale Bertin from FSU Nièvre: “He said that the 64 years are a device that will be fixed […] He was also asked the reason for the haste of this reform […] We also explained to him that there are other ways of financing.” The union representative also raised more local issues during this exchange with Elisabeth Borne. “I said that there was a 13-year life expectancy gap between a worker and a manager, which in Nièvre we had a health system that urgently needed specialists and even general practitioners, he says. She says that from now on it will be possible to change jobs more easily. Strange response!”
