Beauty business returns under the multiplier effect

The largest beauty fair in the Iberian Peninsula returned to Matosinhos yesterday, aiming to serve as a showcase for what’s best in the industry. This year, the number of brands seeking visibility has almost tripled, with some 250 exhibitors present. With this multiplication, the forecast for sales also increases, which, according to Amélia Estevão, marketing director of Exponor, will reach one million euros, twice as much as in the previous edition.

Interrupted for two years by the pandemic (2020 and 2021), Expocosmética is “now recovering its pace”. Despite the latest edition already taking place during a period of easing restrictions, many companies “raised some more fears”, which, combined with the industry reinventing itself online, resulted in the participation of 100 exhibitors and in the visit of 20 thousand people. Now, freed from the shackles of covid-19, expectations are “very positive”, pointing to 250 stands and 30,000 visitors, which is a growth of about 150% and 50% respectively.

Amélia Estevão takes stock of the situation in the sector and outlines an optimistic scenario: “Companies continue to sell, but are now diversifying their sales platforms. In addition to physical stores, they also have a digital presence, at fairs and form partnerships.” In terms of customers, it is true that this is a market that “consumers must keep and buy into”, although they currently prefer “more accessible and multifunctional products”.

A total of 200 companies were expected, of which the Portuguese origin would have a share of more than 80%. Within that universe there are 35 foreign companies, 27 from Spain and the rest from other parts of the world such as the United Kingdom, France, China and Iceland.

On the side of the visitors, who are expected to exceed 30 thousand for the three days of the fair, the initiative has the registration of 69 nationalities, Spain, Brazil and France being the most expressive markets.

Like last year, Expocosmética has this year the addition of a digital fair, E+E, where all exhibitors are represented, anticipating the news for the participant and giving him the opportunity to organize the physical visit, as well as interact with brands and businesses do it in a private way. Despite being an event for professionals, where 90% of the turnover comes from the same segment, the fair also opens its doors to the end consumer, who can buy a ticket for five euros. Professionals, in turn, can ask their suppliers for a code, which guarantees free access.

In addition to the stands of well-known brands, the 26th edition of the International Cosmetics, Aesthetics, Nails and Hair Fair will reward brands that have distinguished themselves in the cosmetics and beauty sector, through the Brand Awards 2023, and host the 3rd. edition of the National Congress of Aesthetics, Beauty and Health, curated by Simone Ayres, a specialist in aesthetic medicine, where the theme of “Health for Beauty” will be discussed and topics such as self-esteem, cosmetics, nutrition and sexual health will be discussed bid.
