The cooperation in air transport between Air France-KLM and the shipowner-logistics CMA CGM, initiated with the entry of the Marseillaise company in the capital of the French-Dutch group last year, has come into force, the two groups announced on Monday. Within the framework of this association, which will initially last for ten years, the two entities are “sharing their complementary cargo networks, the capabilities of their exclusively cargo aircraft and their dedicated services,” they explain in a press release. .
CMA CGM will be able to rely on the experience of Air France-KLM in the field of air freight, particularly in the transport of specialized goods (pharmaceutical products, perishable food, etc.) and its facilities in Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol. In addition to the 6 Air France-KLM Boeing 747 and 777 freighters, you will be able to benefit from the hold capacities of the 160 long-haul aircraft of the two companies dedicated to passenger transport. In exchange, the third world shipowner “will mobilize its large commercial network and its global logistics platform.”
Customers can combine flights
Customers can already “book and combine flights operated by Air France, KLM, Martinair (a cargo subsidiary of the group based in the Netherlands, editor’s note) and CMA CGM Air Cargo through a single digital counter,” they explain.
CMA CGM entered the capital of the group of airlines with liquidity problems in May 2022, acquiring 9%. The Marseille group, which created an air cargo arm two years ago, currently operates two Boeing 777s and four A330 freighters and has placed an order for four A350Fs, the new long-haul cargo version of the European manufacturer, scheduled for 2025. France-KLM has eight A350Fs on its order book.
