The French fast food chain O’Tacos, specializing in “halal tacos a la française”, will establish itself in Canada and aims for 50 openings in 5 years thanks to its alliance with the Foodtastic company that manages numerous franchises there, it announced Wednesday. Founded in 2007 in Grenoble, O’Tacos was acquired in 2018 by the Belgian investment fund Kharis Capital, which integrated it into its QSRP (Quick Service Restaurant Platform) fast food platform, which brings together nearly a thousand restaurants that employ to 6,000 people in seven European countries.
O’Tacos, which introduces itself as the “inventor of French tacos, a Mexican classic revisited French-style” whose ingredients are chosen by the customer (halal meat, cheese sauce…), “served by the minute, on the spot or against delivery”, points to the opening of a first restaurant in “the Montreal region” in the second quarter of 2023, the chain specifies in a press release.
Foodtastic earns over a billion dollars in sales
To do this, O’Tacos has partnered with Foodtastic, “one of Canada’s leading restaurant brand franchisors”, whose North American network has 1,250 restaurants and sales of $1.1 billion, with the brands Quesada, Freshii, Second Cup , Pita Pit, Milestones, Fionn MacCool’s, Shoeless Joe’s, Rotisseries Benny, La Belle et La Boeuf and Monza. Foodtastic will have the exclusive rights to develop the O’Tacos brand – whose restaurants are usually “dark kitchens” or kitchens dedicated exclusively to delivery and/or take-out – with a goal of 50 openings in the next 5 years, according to the press. release.
The O’Tacos brand, which has more than 260 restaurants in France, is also present in the Netherlands -where it has announced that it will be developed in partnership with the Johnny’s Burger Company chain-, in Germany, in Italy, in Spain and plans to settle in Switzerland next summer. QSRP develops, in addition to O’Tacos, the Burger King and Quick hamburger brands, as well as the “sustainable seafood” brand Nordsee & Go!Fish.
