CRANE. Union defends hiring at least 80 pilots

The president of the Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SPAC), Tiago Faria Lopes, said it is necessary to hire at least 80 pilots at TAP, indicating that pilots have left the airline since Jan. 20.

“At the beginning of April, there were 137 flights open, with copilot, captain or mixed crew. I would say at least 80 pilots should be hired,” said Tiago Faria Lopes in an interview with Antena1 and Jornal de Negócios. , indicating that TAP currently has about 1,200 pilots.

According to the president of the SPAC, “unfortunately” there will probably be flight delays and chaos at the airport in the summer, because there is still no response capacity, at an airport that is “obsolete”.

Regarding a possible sale of TAP, the trade unionist defended that this should only go ahead if the ‘hub’ remains in Lisbon, but indicated that even with good management from the new Executive President (CEO), this process will be irreversible .

For Tiago Faria Lopes, it is not the profits of 66 million euros presented by TAP that will influence the purchase, not least because, to be comparable to its counterparts, it should have had 250 million in profit.

The trade unionist also believed that if political interference in TAP continues, as confirmed by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, any manager, no matter how good he is, will not be able to achieve the objectives.
