The government withdraws the resignation of TAP’s financial director for the time being

The government is ruling out the resignation of TAP’s chief financial officer, or England’s CFO, Gonçalo Pires, after statements by the parliamentary committee of inquiry in which the head of the airline lied when he said he only learned informally of the departure of manager Alexandra Reis. via a WhatsApp from the CEO. This position would tell Christine Ourmières-Widener, who revealed that the CFO was aware of the process from the start.

Finance Minister Fernando Medina said at a parliamentary hearing on Tuesday at Chega’s request that “with regard to the statements made by TAP’s CFO, the government will respect the parliamentary committee of inquiry”. “Now is not the time to draw any additional conclusions,” the official concluded in response to a question from far-right party deputy Rui Afonso.

The Minister of Finance will first await the conclusions of the parliamentary inquiry into the airline before taking a decision.

“The Commission of Inquiry has now started its work. It will hold a very wide range of hearings. It can hear in conflicting terms, call people again to clarify if they see fit,” he said.

At stake are statements from TAP’s financial administrator that contradict the airline’s CEO.

During the hearing at the TAP Commission of Inquiry, Gonçalo Pires explained that he was aware of Alexandra Reis’s departure from the company, but only “informally”, through a communication from TAP’s executive president, Christine Ourmières-Widener, in a Whatsapp message a few days ago for the official confirmation.

However, the version of the financial administrator contrasts with that of Christine Ourmières-Widener, according to which Gonçalo Pires was aware of the process of Alexandra Reis’s departure from the beginning.

Also this Tuesday, the Prime Minister considered it important to wait for the end of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the management of TAP to withdraw any political fallout and stressed that each sovereign body has its own time.
