The US proposes to reduce vehicle emissions by 56% by 2032

The proposal, which assumes an average annual reduction in pollution of 13%, is the most demanding to date in the United States

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed on Wednesday
radical reductions in emissions from new cars and trucks through 2032, which could mean that two out of three new vehicles sold will now be electric.

The proposal, which represents an average annual reduction in pollution of 13%, is the most demanding to date in the United States. According to the EPA, ces règles, appliquées aux modèles des années 2027-2032 réduiront les émissions de CO2 de plus de 9 billion tons jusqu’en 2055, ce qui équivaut à plus de deux fois les émissions totalas de CO2 aux États-Unis last year.

50% of new professional vehicles could be electric by 2032

The agency estimates that net profits until 2055 are between 850 million and 1,600 million dollars (778-1,500 million euros). By 2032, this would cost about $1,200 per vehicle per manufacturer, but the change would save an owner more than $9,000 on average in fuel, maintenance and repair costs over an eight-year period.

To meet the requirements of this proposal, automakers would have to produce 60% electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030 and 67% by 2032, when only 5.8% of US vehicles sold in 2022 were EVs. .

In its proposal, the EPA estimates that 50% of new commercial vehicles, such as buses and dumpsters, could be EVs by 2032, as well as 35% of short-haul highway vehicles and 25% of long-distance EVs.
