Pension reform: what to expect from the April 13 strike?

The twelfth day of mobilization since mid-January against the pension reform will take place on Thursday, on the eve of the Constitutional Council’s decision on the text.

A new day of demonstrations and strikes is scheduled for Thursday, on the eve of the expected decision of the Constitutional Council, which will decide in particular on the conformity of the pension reform project with the Constitution. This is the 12th day of mobilization against the pension reform since January 19.

What to expect for this day?

• SNCF

On a national scale and Ile-de-France, traffic will be “disturbed” but less than during the first demonstrations.

  • 4 TGV and Ouigo of 5
  • 3 TER of 5 national average
  • 1 in 5 Intercités by day, but no train will run at night
  • Eurostar and Thalys: almost normal traffic

daily transportation

In Paris and Ile-de-France, the RATP provides “almost normal traffic” on the RER and the metro, “with the exception of a few lines.”

Specifically, 3 out of 4 trains will run on RER A and lines N and P, 2 out of 3 trains on RER C and RER E as well as lines H, L and R. Finally, 3 out of 5 trains will run on RER D, but the interconnection between Châtelet-Les Halles and Gare de Lyon will be maintained.

Traffic will be normal on the Bus and Tram networks.

In the regions, the various public transport websites advertise different degrees of disruption. In Marseille, for example, the Régie des Transports Métropolitains indicates “disruptions to be expected”, while in Bordeaux, Transports Bordeaux Métropole foresees only “slight disturbances”.

However, public transport is likely to be disrupted during the processions of protesters.

In a territorial intelligence note dated Tuesday and which BFMTV was able to consult, the “most substantial” processions in the region should be organized in Toulouse (17,500 people are expected), Montpellier (12,500), Brest (12,000), Nantes (10,500), Marseille and Rennes (10,000), Caen (9,000), Quimper, Bordeaux and Lyon (8,000) or even Grenoble and Pau (7,000).

• Airports

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) warns that from Wednesday, April 12 at night until Friday, April 14 at 6 am, air traffic will be interrupted at departures and arrivals from the airports of Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes.

The DGAC, which indicates that “cancellations and delays are to be expected”, invites you to “postpone” your trip.

The first union of kindergartens and primary schools, FSU-SNUipp, calls to “go on strike and demonstrate massively on April 13”, but also to “meet everywhere in France on April 14 once the decision is made [du Conseil constitutionnel, ndlr] surrendered”.

The SUD education union also calls a strike on April 13 to “participate massively in all the initiatives scheduled for April 14.”

• Garbage Men

Garbage collectors, scrapers, sweepers, sewers, operators, drivers, technical assistants, supervisors, sanitation executives… All agents in the sector are invited to reaffirm their opposition to the reform and “participate in blockade actions,” it indicates the CGT unions in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The strike “extends at least until Friday”, announced Régis Vieceli, general secretary of the CGT Paris FTDNEEA (Waste Treatment Sector Water Sewerage Sanitation).

The CFDT Alsace began on Tuesday night on the outskirts of Strasbourg a blockade of an Auchan refrigerated platform that supplies supermarkets in eastern France with fresh produce, as part of the protest against the pension reform, according to AFP.

The lockdown will last until Saturday, which could cause fresh produce shortages at some stores that run on the platform. The CFDT Alsace had already organized, at the end of March, the blocking of another platform, of the Lidl brand.
