Children’s room, living room, student study, two-bedroom apartment… In its stores, Ikea has always relied on layout examples to help customers project themselves better. In the fully digital age, the Swedish brand is catching up.
Ikea has imagined an immersive experience for its Parisian customers. In a 9m2 space, 80 examples of atmosphere are projected onto three white walls. The customer can change the color of a sofa or bathroom cabinet using a tablet and when a product interests him, all the information related to it is displayed, such as the price, the materials or the product sheet.
It is also possible to project some 10,000 references from the Ikea catalog in real size.
This 9m2 space is accessible in the Ikea design and order workshop, a new 740m2 premises inaugurated this Thursday in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. On site, 22 brand employees support customers in planning their development project.
In short, “we are thinking of personalizing the experience even more with a virtual reality start-up,” he adds.
In 2020, Ikea acquired the US start-up Geomagical Labs, which specializes in capturing 3D environments. Based on the skills of this start-up, Ikea has developed the Ikea Creativ tool, now available in the United States.
It allows users to take a photo of any room and redesign it by replacing existing furniture with Ikea products through virtual reality. The service should launch in France in the coming months.
