Leclerc leader in food distribution
E.Leclerc, like Intermarché or Système U in France, is a group of independent stores, where store owners have more leeway than in so-called integrated groups, like Carrefour or Auchan, for example.
This is why these groups only report their sales, not their net income, which depends on the orientations and financial situation of each group member. E.Leclerc has 544 “members” who operate a total of 734 stores.
In any case, the group is the leader in food distribution in France, ahead, in this order, of Carrefour (42,000 million euros in turnover in France without fuel, +3.4%), Intermarché (36,000 million without fuel, + 2.3%), Système U (23.9 billion euros without fuel, +4%), Auchan (16.7 billion euros without fuel, +1.7%), Lidl (data for France not provided) and Casino (14.2 billion euros without gasoline, +1%)).
The E.Leclerc group as a whole claims to employ around 140,000 people in France.
