Support for rising fuel prices extended through the end of the month

Support for rising fuel prices, which ended today, will be extended through the end of the month, with the rebate for gasoline maintained and a one-cent reduction for diesel, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

“In view of all the measures in force, the tax burden reduction will be 32.8 cents per liter of diesel and 34 cents per liter of petrol,” the ministry said in a statement.

Compared to the first half of April, the ministry says that the total discount on the tax burden for petrol will be maintained and slightly reduced for diesel, given the evolution of fuel prices in recent weeks.

The measures to mitigate the increase in fuel prices that will remain in force in the second half of April, the mechanism applicable to the ISP is equivalent to a reduction in the VAT rate from 23% to 13% and the compensation mechanism via a reduction in the ISP from additional VAT revenue due to changes in fuel prices, in addition to the suspension of the carbon tax update.

The ministry also adds that, as part of measures to support the agricultural sector, it maintains the 6 cent reduction in agricultural diesel tax.
