The coronation of the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, which will take place on May 6, not only captivates the English. Many Europeans want to attend and among them, the French are the most fans of the event if we are to believe the hype about flights to London this weekend.
Royal Weekend: London flight searches explode
Searches for flights by Europeans to the English capital where the expected coronation of the new king will take place increased by 65% on average for the weekend of May 6, according to data from the search engine dedicated to Kayak* trips.
A significant increase that, however, pales in comparison if we only look at the enthusiasm of the French for the event: from France, searches made via Kayak increased by around 207% for this actual weekend compared to the same weekend of the previous year.
On the side of its competitor Expedia, the same observation except that the increases observed are even more impressive: searches have skyrocketed by 265%**.
Flying from France to Buckingham Palace will cost travelers at least €129, Expedia says.
Find a hotel in London
Once there, accommodation still needs to be found and London hotels also appear to be flattened.
Property searches by European travelers on Kayak increased by 105%. And once again, the French make the difference: the boom in searches in French on the Expedia platform for the coronation weekend is noteworthy: +435%.
For those who have taken out their ticket, they may have the opportunity to see, in addition to the new king, Prince Harry who will be present, but without his wife Meghan Markle.
*Kayak data is based on flight and hotel searches conducted between January 1 and April 1, 2023 for travel between May 5 and 7, 2023
**HE Expedia data is based on flight and hotel searches for London between 10/11/2022 and 3/15/2023 for travel on the weekend of 23/05 to 05/07 compared to the same period in 2021-22.
