In 2021, excluding the effect of inflation, employees earned an average of 1,294 euros, only 118 euros more than a decade earlier, according to data released by Pordata.
In a statement, the entity revealed that, “in 2021, employees in companies earned an average of 1,294 euros” gross, which compared to 2011 “is an increase of 210 euros which, excluding the inflation effect, is only 118 euros “indicated.
According to Pordata, “with regard to major professions”, some earn “salaries above the national average”, with an emphasis on “representatives of the legislature and executive bodies (+1,483 euros)”, “intellectual professions and scientific (+701 technicians of average level (+314 euros), including an exception: mid-level health technicians and professionals earn 108 euros less than the national average,” he stressed.
Pordata also indicated that, within these three groups mentioned, “the best paid professions are management or board positions”such as “representatives of the legislature and executive bodies, senior leaders of public administration, business leaders and managers (earned an average of 3,577 euros); directors of administrative and commercial services (3,091 euros); directors of production and specialized services (2,826 euros); and technicians of legal, social, sporting and cultural services (2,331 euros)”.
Occupations in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) “are also among the highest paid, with salaries above 1,850 euros,” said Pordata.
This group includes “specialists in information and communication technology (ICT) (2,198 euros)”, “finance, accounting, administrative organization, public and commercial relations (2,111 euros)”, “natural sciences, mathematics, engineering (2,019 euros)” and “health workers (1,869 euros)”.
On the other hand, with regard to the lowest paid professions “are meal preparation help (761 euros), cleaning lady (791 euros) and personal care (818 euros)”indicated.
Pordata also analyzed the wage inequality between men and women and concluded that the largest gap is found “among middle-level technicians in legal, social, sports and cultural services (men earn more than 2,409 euros on average)”.
Among the areas with the greatest gender gap are representatives of the legislature and executive bodies, senior leaders of public administration, directors and managers of companies, in which “men earn an average of 1,070 euros more than women,” he pointed out.
With regard to the best paid economic sectors, according to Pordata, “these are electricity, gas and water (they earned on average 1,672 euros more than the national average) and financial and insurance activities (+1,080 euros )”, while, on the contrary, “the hospitality industry and agriculture are the least well paid (-380 euros and -283 euros compared to the national average)”.
The organization also noted that “the economic sectors that generated the most wealth in 2020 (GVA – Gross Value Added) are also those where average workers’ wages were below the national average”.
Pordata gave examples of the manufacturing industry, which “generated 13.8% of gross value added, with emphasis on the food and textile industries” and “where average wages are 121 euros and 340 euros lower than the national average”, as well as ” real estate activities and commerce (13.4% and 13.1% of gross value added), public administration and health (7.4% and 7% of gross value added)”, pointing out that “in health, the difference with the national average is -145 euros”.
However, he indicated that the biggest differences compared to the national average ‘are to be found in accommodation and catering (-380 euros, with a gross added value of 3.6%), in agriculture (-283 euros, with a gross added value of 2.5%) and in administrative activities and support services (-208 euros, with a gross added value of 3.8%)”.
