Costa points out that the stability program provides less IRS and debt reduction

The Prime Minister stressed that the Stability Programme, which will be discussed in parliament on Wednesday, provides for a reduction of the IRS by two billion euros and a reduction in public debt to levels below 100% of GDP.

“The stability program, which we are debating today in the Assembly of the Republic, continues to strengthen household incomes, increase public investment and reduce public debt,” António Costa wrote on his Twitter account.

One of the government’s main goals for the next few years, according to the leader of the executive branch, will be “to lower the IRS.”

“We will continue to reduce taxes on work. There is another two billion euros IRS reduction for Portuguese families until 2027,” he stressed, before referring to the question of the evolution of pensions.”

In July we achieved an interim increase in pensions. Pensions will be updated by another 3.57% in July,” he noted.

According to the stability program, the executive branch plans to strengthen public investment by 2027.

At the moment, the prime minister claims that in 2023 “the historic peak of 2011” will be exceeded.

“We will continue the growth path and by 2027 we will reach a figure that is 50% higher than in 2022,” he promised.

As for the weight of government debt in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), António Costa ensures that the downward trend continues.

“We are sticking to the reduction path, which will bring the debt below 100% of GDP in two years. Less debt means more resources to invest in public policies,” added António Costa in a series of posts on the stability program, which the The Portuguese government will give a speech after the parliamentary debate in Brussels.

The stability program 2023-2027, presented on the 17th by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, has motions of rejection by the Bloco de Esquerda e Chega.
