Neonicotinoids: the Council of State rejects any exception to the European ban

The government had granted temporary exemptions from this pesticide, citing crop protection from massive infestations of disease-carrying aphids.

The French Council of State on Wednesday declared exemptions for the use of
neonicotinoids for the cultivation of sugar beet that had been temporarily granted in 2021 and 2022.

“In fact, no derogation is possible if the European Commission has formally banned a pesticide,” the Council said in a statement.

The government had granted temporary exemptions from this pesticide, citing crop protection from massive infestations of disease-carrying aphids.
