Several candidates, including a “major player” in the sector, have offered to take over Courtepaille, the restaurant chain announced Thursday, placed in receivership.
“The deadline to submit offers to take over all or part of Courtepaille has been postponed to May 12 to allow potential buyers to finalize their proposals,” Courtepaille added in a statement sent to AFP.
The company, which belongs to the Napaqaro group (Buffalo Grill, Popeyes) adds that Courtepaille’s socio-economic committee and employees have been informed “that an important player in the sector proposes to take over nine of its own restaurants and maintain the brand and the contracts for the 72 franchisees of the network”.
9 restaurants taken?
The Courtepaille restaurant chain has 144 directly operated restaurants and 72 franchised restaurants and employs 2,089 people.
Faced with “serious economic and financial difficulties first caused by the Covid crisis and subsequently aggravated”, the company announced at the end of March that it had requested the opening of judicial administration proceedings before the Nanterre Commercial Court.
The family brand has not managed to recover its level of assistance from 2019, before the health crisis: it was still down 25% last year with a turnover of 190 million euros.
Courtepaille has also suffered from rising inflation, which increases its supply costs and forces families with tight budgets to make decisions about their consumption.
