The Basic Monthly Salary Index (SMB) of the private sector rose 1.8% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter, an interannual increase of 4.6%, according to provisional data published this Friday by the Ministry of Labor.
The SMB, measured in private companies (excluding agriculture) with 10 or more employees, represents the gross salary, that is, before deduction of social security contributions and payment of social benefits.
Does not take into account bonuses or overtime.
The worker and employee basic hourly wage (SHBOE) index increased 1.9% over the last quarter of 2022 and 5.2% in one year.
But “these developments must be compared with inflation,” Dares, the ministry’s statistics service, said in a press release.
higher inflation
In fact, the cost of living has increased by 5.7% between the end of March 2022 and the end of March 2023.
“Throughout a year and in constant euros, the SHBOE therefore fell by 0.5% and the SMB by 1.1%,” underlines Dares.
By sectors of activity, SMEs advanced, during the first quarter, 2.1% in industry, 1.8% in the tertiary sector and 1.7% in construction.
At one year, the increase is 4.7% for industry and tertiary and 3.7% for construction.
By socio-professional category, SMEs increased during the first quarter by 2.1% for workers, 1.9% for intermediate professions, 1.7% for employees and 1.6% for executives.
In one year it increased 5.5% for workers, 4.9% for employees, 4.2% for intermediate professions and 3.6% for executives.
