Spain’s left-wing government on Tuesday announced major reductions in train tickets, including Interrail passes to travel across Europe, or buses, to encourage young people to travel this summer.
These offers are intended to “facilitate leisure travel for young people during the summer and help the tourism sector”, a pillar of the Spanish economy, “to consolidate its recovery after the pandemic”, explained the Ministry of Transport in a note from Next press the Council of Ministers.
Specifically, people between the ages of 18 and 30 residing in Spain will be able to benefit from these bonuses from June 15 to September 15 after registering on the ministry’s website. These reductions, announced in the middle of the electoral campaign before the local and regional elections on May 28 and the legislative elections at the end of the year, could reach 90% in the case of short or medium-distance rail lines or national public bus services. .
50% discount for trips to Europe
Young people who buy TGV tickets from the public operator Renfe or from its private competitors will benefit from a 50% reduction with a maximum of 30 euros per ticket, while the price of the Interrail passes sold by Renfe, which allow travel throughout the whole Europe, may also be reduced by 50%.
As part of the anti-inflation measures, Spain already launched free rail passes for regional and suburban trains in September. According to Renfe, in the first quarter 2.1 million passes were issued in this context. Germany, for its part, launched a new transport ticket on May 1 that allows you to travel throughout the country for 49 euros per month.
