Costa wants to protect Galamba from the TAP Commission of Inquiry

Prime Minister António Costa defended this Friday that the object of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the public management of TAP is limited to the period between 2020 and 2022, when the current Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, was Secretary of the State of Energy , so that the official falls outside the analysis of the CPI.

However, and as DN/Dinheiro Vivo has already reported, the legal degree that the CPI creates does not exclude any period.

“The TAP Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry was created with a very specific purpose: to analyze government management between 2020 and 2022, and under the pretext of a situation where there was an agreement on compensation for a person who left the administration [Alexandra Reis]. I have seen that the parliamentary commission of inquiry has evolved in what it analyzes,” the executive leader said in statements to Lusa on Friday, on the sidelines of a visit to the construction project of 266 houses destined for affordable rent in Benfica, Lisbon, and which will receive funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

“The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry covers a period from 2020 to 2022 and João Galamba was Secretary of State for Energy at that time. I therefore do not see what the current Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, happened with the TAP between 2020 and 2022. That is what the parliamentary committee of inquiry is about, he emphasizes.

However, António Costa’s argument runs counter to the very definition and time horizon of the CPI. According to the diploma, the purpose of the CPI is to “evaluate the exercise of political oversight over the management of TAP SGPS and TAP, SA, particularly in the period between 2020 and 2022”. That is, the resolution does not set any time limits, it only indicates that the investigation will focus with special attention on the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.
