This is the star announcement of the 2023 edition of Choose France: the Taiwanese group ProLogium will invest 5.2 billion euros in France in the installation of a new battery factory. A guest of BFM Business on Monday, Gilles Normand, President of ProLogium Europe, gave a live demonstration of this innovative solid-state battery technology.
The battery presented by Gilles Normand is a small model, no bigger or thicker than a credit card. With its gold leaf appearance, it bends even more easily than plastic. The battery is connected to a small light bulb, which is turned on to check that it is working properly.
A very durable solid battery.
ProLogium, “is a company that was created now about 17 years ago and Vincent Yang, the founder, worked a lot to make batteries very simple,” says Gilles Normand. Simple but above all very fine.
And the president of ProLogium Europe to “torture” his battery a bit, first turning it in all directions, without turning off the light bulb. “If you do that with current batteries, it doesn’t work anymore,” he says, before hitting it with the tip of a child’s chisel. “He’s got a little scarring, but he still walks.”
Cut in two but still functional.
Last test, and no less important: Gilles Normand cuts the battery, now split in two, with scissors. But the bulb connected to one of the two parts is still on. “Inevitably, it will last a little less because I’ve taken power from it, but it works,” Gilles Normand rejoices.
“We are ten years ahead of our competitors,” said Vincent Yang, global head of ProLogium, announcing the establishment of the group in France. Actions joined the word on Monday on the set of BFM Business.
