The group of private nursing homes Orpea, shaken since January by a scandal surrounding its practices, announced on Monday that it intended to hire a massive workforce to guarantee better care for residents. Orpea wants to “take better care of residents, employees and caregivers through an ambitious recruitment and continuing education program,” the French group said in a press release.
Orpea plans to hire 550 people a month by the end of the year, half of whom are nursing assistants. It aims to increase to 800 monthly hires in 2023. “We are in the process of hiring, it is extremely difficult, it is not just an Orpea problem,” its new CEO, Laurent Guillot, told reporters on the sidelines. of an event organized by the group. The sector is currently facing a shortage of personnel, due to working conditions considered difficult due to low wages.
accusations of abuse
To speed up its hiring, Orpea must “also rebuild the human resources team, in particular with staff in the regions to recruit as close as possible to our establishments”, stressed Laurent Guillot, who will present a transformation plan for the group “to a few months here.” Present in 23 countries, Orpea has been in crisis since the January launch of the investigative book “Les Fossoyeurs,” which accuses her of mistreatment of residents, accounting fraud and questionable human resources practices.
Justice opened a preliminary investigation in April for institutional mistreatment and financial crimes, following a government report. The group, which manages more than 350 establishments in France, presented this Monday the conclusions of its “General Statements”, launched in May to collect complaints and suggestions from residents, their families and staff.
