Reopening of trade negotiations: The mayor salutes “the spirit of responsibility of the industrialists”

This Wednesday, the largest manufacturers agreed to renegotiate prices downward with large retailers before the end of May.

“This is excellent news for the consumer. (…) This will accelerate the price decline.” After a meeting in Bercy with the agri-food industry, Bruno Le Maire welcomed on Wednesday the agreement reached with the major players in the sector, who agreed to reopen trade negotiations to lower shelf prices.

“That means prices will be renegotiated lower early. This way we will be able to break the inflationary spiral, as we have committed ourselves, for next autumn”, said the Minister of Economy.

“Everyone plays collectively”

The Bercy tenant also wanted to thank the “distributors who also played the game in the anti-inflationary quarter that will extend beyond June 15.”

The 75 largest agri-food manufacturers in France agreed on Wednesday to reopen negotiations with supermarkets before the end of May to take into account the fall in the price of raw materials, the main representative body for the sector announced at the end of the meeting. A meeting with the government, which hopes to lower the high prices on the shelves.

“We are committed before the end of May that ‘the top 75’, the 75 largest consumer products companies in France, return to the negotiating table,” said the president of Ania (National Association of Food Industries) Jean- Philippe Andre.
