Fuels: a strike by TotalEnergies employees threatens the supply of service stations

TotalEnergies employees in France began a strike for at least three days on Tuesday, at the request of the CGT, to demand in particular an increase in their wages.

The social movement threatens to interrupt the supply of fuel service stations. TotalEnergies employees in France began a strike of at least three days on Tuesday, at the request of the CGT. In particular, they demand an increase in their salaries.

Among the main sites affected, the La Mède biorefinery (Bouches-du-Rhône), the Normandy refineries in Le Havre, Donges (Loire-Atlantique), Carling (Moselle), Feyzin (Rhône) and Oudalle (Seine-Maritime), as well as the Grandpuits (Seine-et-Marne) and Flandres (North) fuel depots.

Salary increase, hiring freeze,…

In addition to an “immediate salary increase of 10% for the year 2022”, the CGT calls for the “unfreezing of hiring” in France and “a massive investment plan” in France, recalled Benjamin Tange. He also stressed that these claims had already been at the origin of movements on June 24 and July 28 last.

A drop in performance of 20 to 30%

In addition to the interruptions in the supply of the gas stations, he estimated that the production of the refineries could experience a drop in flows of 20 to 30%, in case of strong mobilization.

TotalEnergies employs 35,000 people in France, including its subsidiaries. An interview at the level of the oil industry is scheduled for the 27th, so the start of the movement is expected for that day, mainly at the oil sites. The other sites of the group must join them in the following days, with their sights set on the day of action in all economic sectors on Thursday, at the call of the CGT and Solidaires.

The French oil and gas giant made huge profits in the second quarter of 2022, taking full advantage of the rise in oil and gas prices, which followed the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
