The State will be the sole shareholder of EDF on June 8, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire announced Tuesday on RTL. “The state has assumed control of 98% of EDF and on June 8, the state will have 100% control of EDF,” the minister said.
“Set clear requirements for EDF”
“In concrete terms, this strengthens the country’s energy independence and allows us to set clear requirements for EDF,” continued the Bercy lessee, who calls for “EDF to increase its nuclear electricity production and return as quickly as possible to the 360 terrawatt hours it our country needs today.
To date, 19 nuclear reactors are closed in France and 37 are in operation. “We are exporting electricity again, so this is proof that we can regain control of our electricity production,” Bruno Le Maire greeted, assuring that “there is no risk of shortages” for next winter.
Announced last July, the renationalisation, for an amount of some 9.7 billion euros, should allow the Government to direct the vast renovation project of the French nuclear park announced a year ago by Emmanuel Macron with more freedom.
